Shattenkirk's contract is making Callahan's look like a bargain.

This has buyout written all over it.

They're not going to compete next year so ride it out for the two more.Same with Smith and Staal. If you get lucky enough to get a bite on a trade, you grab it, even if you have to eat some salary. We are not trying to save on cap space so a buy out is ridiculous in my opinion.

Yeah, I have always agreed on this point. How many guys are we going to buy out? I do not want the Rangers to create cap obligations for themselves way into the future when they are really not ready to compete. Maybe after next season, depending on how guys progress, they could consider a buyout of one of these guys but I am not there yet on thinking it's a good idea at all for this organization.

I remember that happen to the Rangers one time a couple of years ago, an afternoon game against the Flyers. Dump in hit the linesman's skate up by the blueline and went into the net...it was an afternoon game. It may have been Callahan that dumped it in.

Thats a goal, I believe the rule specifically states "can not deflect of a refs hog..."

Only way I see some sort of buyout would be if the team miraculously becomes a top contender and someone like Shatty or Staal is blocking a very good player from being in the lineup

If they buy him out right now, the last two years of the buyout cap hit aren't that bad. But that is the only option.

Not really in terms of circumstances. You guys are considered one of the cup favorites, I would think you want every penny and none wasted on bad contracts. Who cares about our bad contracts, we aren't competing for anything.

Call up or is McQuaid/Smith gonna get back in?

How is this team not terrible. I don't get it. Maybe they are, but maybe the bottom 3rd of the league is just a total slop fest.

They don't have enough talent but they do work really hard for this coach and they get some bounces. Plus they are also really kinda good in the shootout. Record would be a lot worse.

Edit - 5 less points for SO wins puts them at 3rd worst amount of points

because they've won shootouts and they had that stretch in November where Chytil was scoring every game

Staal taking a maintenance day. So, #NYR at practice:

Chytil-Zibanejad-Zuccarello
Kreider-Hayes-Buchnevich
Vesey-Howden-Fast
Andersson(Beleskey)-Strome-Namestnikov

Vesey moved down again. Nam moved down. Chytil moves up. Kreider off top line. Strome goes from second to fourth line. Andersson rotating on at wing with Beleskey. Zucc/Buch return to top lines.

Skjei-McQuaid
Claesson-DeAngelo
Smith-Pionk

If Smith in for Staal, he could be odd man out again Friday, which may mean McQuaid is ready to return.
